We have some professional photos of The Berkeley Gourmet Ghetto’s most delightful little cottage: Chez Mona’s. This is a 610-square foot, 2 bed, 1 bath cottage in Berkeley, CA. Mona teamed up with her daughter Lisa, son-in-law Aaron and two grandkids to create this backyard casita near the famous Berkeley Gourmet Ghetto. Nicknamed Chez Mona due to it’s proximity to Chez Panisse and the rest of the Berkeley Gourmet Ghetto, it is walking distance to an abundance of coffee shops, grocery stores, restaurants and all the best that Berkeley has to offer.
One of the most surprising aspects of this project is that Mona’s daughter Lisa and son in law Aaron sold their home in Kensington and moved from a big home with a view to the flats of Berkeley only to discover that they love the flats!. Prior to moving they didn’t realize they were trapped up in the hills and spent way too much time shuttling their kids around. Now Lisa compares living near the gourmet ghetto to “being on a European vacation. My husband and I have coffee dates at the local cafe in the mornings” Walk scores are something to respect!
Here are some pictures from last year around Christmas time.
