Fire sprinklers are part of the code for many projects in California now. These systems are expensive on their own and we’ve seen installation prices around $4,400 to sprinkle just a small one bedroom guest house.
However, that $4,400 is just a part of the total installation cost.
Most older homes have a smaller pipe of approximate 1″ from the street to their home. These are often full of rust too. In order to get enough water pressure to your new sprinkler system, you often times have to replace this piple with a new 2″ line. That can easily add $3,000 for the digging, installation and burying of a new line.
Add this up and have a contractor add their 15% and you can quickly get to $10,000.
$10,000 is a lot of money. Especially when it is for some pipes that you hope you never use. If you consider the cost of copper piping, the effort needed to dig those trenches (he’s using a jackhammer to break up clay soil below), and the liability or a leaky pipe in your ceiling, then it makes a bit more sense.
An example proposal is attached here, it is out of date but gives you a sense of what a proposal could look like: Sprinkler Proposal
